Rewriting The Self-Talk Narrative
Dear Lovely Reader,
Last week, I wrote about doing a gentle check-in at the halfway point of the year. And in the days since, something deeper has been stirring.
Because here’s the truth: we can do all the right things. The self-care. The mindset work. The habits. But if we’re speaking to ourselves with judgment, cruelty, or quiet disapproval, there will always be resistance. We’ll always be fighting a silent battle within.
Where the Inner Voice Begins
Most of us didn’t just wake up one day speaking to ourselves this way. It began early, through the words of others, the environments we grew up in, the comparisons we learned to make just to survive. And now, in a digital age of 24/7 input, we’re not just comparing ourselves to the people around us. We’re comparing ourselves to curated lives, filtered moments, and narratives that were never real to begin with.
If we want to feel free, we have to start where it matters most: inside.
Ask Yourself: What’s the Story?
A powerful place to begin is with this question:
What do I really believe about myself?
Not the version you share with the world, but the quiet story underneath.
Is it “I’m not good enough”?
“I’ll never get there”?
“I’m too much” or “not enough”?
Most of us are running some variation of these. And while they might feel familiar, even safe, they aren’t serving us.
Ironically, the more supportive story, the one that honors your truth and worth, might feel disruptive at first. Because your body and nervous system are used to the old story. Changing that narrative means creating safety around something new. And that takes patience, presence, and a lot of grace.
Let the Story Shift
This isn’t about perfection. It’s not about pretending to be confident or positive.
It’s about being willing.
Willing to:
Notice when the inner critic is loud.
Pause before believing every thought.
Explore tools that help shift the narrative, be it somatic practices, EFT, meditation, journaling, therapy, or simply honest conversations with someone you trust.
No one-size-fits-all here. What works for one person may not work for you, and even what used to work might need updating. Think of it like moving into "editor mode": you can revise the story. You’re allowed to grow beyond the version of you that was just surviving.
Remember: You’re Not Alone in This
Even the people we admire, the ones who seem to have it all together, they, too, carry unseen pain. No amount of outward success makes up for an inner story that says, “You’re not worthy.”
That’s why this work matters. Because when you change your story, not only do you feel better, you become a ripple. People feel your clarity. Your presence. Your authenticity. It’s not about doing more or becoming someone new. It’s about reclaiming who you already are beneath the noise.
So, What’s the Story You’re Ready to Rewrite?
You don’t have to get it all right. You don’t need to fix every part of your past. But if something in you is whispering, I’m tired of this old story, listen.
Start small. Be honest. Offer yourself the same kindness you give to others.
And remember, this isn’t just about you. As your story heals, others are quietly given permission to heal theirs too.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this share with me here or on instagram @thehannahwallace.
A blog where I share my thoughts on disability pride month.
Here’s a snippet of what’s in it.
Thriving, when you’re disabled, often becomes a privilege. That might sound strange, especially in a so-called modern world, but it’s the truth. Access to the right care, housing, finances, community, and visibility can drastically shift whether someone is simply surviving or actually living. People that are unable to work aren’t shamed in the way that people often are.
Listen to Sophie Bashford and myself have a beautiful conversation.
This weeks card is from Victoria Maxwell’s “Angels are among us” oracle deck.
This week’s card, the goddess Isis, is a beautiful reflection of the collective energy right now. Yes, there’s a lot going on energetically, things feel heightened, fast, and full of potential, but beneath it all, there’s a quiet, fertile kind of magic rising.
We’ve entered the fullness of summer. The ground is rich with possibility.
The Capricorn full moon that just passed offered us the perfect opportunity to release what’s no longer serving us, and now, we’re being asked to plant the seeds of what we do want, with intention.
This is a time for manifestation, yes, but more importantly, it’s a time to remember this:
🌿 You are the magic.
Not outside of you. Within you.
And in order for the magic to flow through your life, you must believe it’s already here.
Ask yourself?
What am I planting right now?
What do I really want—not just what I think I should want?
How do I want to feel in my daily life?
Does this vision feel sustainable, grounded, and safe in my body?
There’s so much noise in the world around “acting as if” or “manifesting the dream.” But real magic happens when it’s rooted in the body, in truth, and in alignment. Not just imagined, but embodied.
Let this be a week where you:
Ground yourself deeply (like Capricorn does so well).
Revisit your relationship to magic.
Connect with the power of resurrection and rebirth.
Plant your seeds slowly, gently, and consciously.
And if you don’t know exactly what you want to plant yet, that’s okay. Start with how you want to feel. What you want to experience. Let that be enough.
Goddess Isis reminds us of the power of transformation. She’s a guardian of rebirth, divine remembrance, and spiritual strength. Tap into that energy this week. Feel into what it means to be magical. Powerful. Aligned. Whole.
If you identify as male, feel into the energy of divine masculine power. What does it look like to feel steady, magical, and creative in your essence?
Whoever you are: what would it mean to live from your truest, most magical self?
This week, stay close to your body. Anchor your intentions in your heart, not your head.
Be intentional. Be gentle. Be present.
You are not separate from the magic.
You are the magic.
I hope everyone has a good week ahead, do share this with anyone who it may help it’s greatly appreciated.
All my love
Hannah X
